The situation

Where it started

How a hire runs now
  1. 1Enquiry by phone or WhatsApp
  2. 2Hire agreement signed on their phone
  3. 3First two weeks paid up front
  4. 4Machine scanned out on delivery
  5. 5Weekly payments taken automatically
  6. 6Scanned back in on collection
  7. 7Thank you, review and referral

Fast Dry hires out dehumidifiers, drying fans and other drying equipment to builders, merchants, developers, letting agents and homeowners dealing with damp, floods and leaks. The aim is simple: dry a property fast so the decorating can start.

It began on Chris's own painting and decorating jobs, where rooms were still too wet to paint. He saw the opportunity, started putting machines on site, and soon other trades were ringing for them without a penny spent on advertising. But it all ran on Chris: bookings by phone, text and WhatsApp, a diary, no signed terms, no deposits, and machines that sometimes went missing on sites.

What was really going on

Demand was never the problem. The business had outgrown the way it was run, and Chris was charging far less than his service was worth.

What we did

Built with them, step by step

01

Pricing that values his worth

Chris had limiting beliefs about what he could charge, and was far below what competitors charged. His value is that he wants to help everyone and he's brilliant at what he does, but he also needed to value his time. We raised prices in line with that, with standard, trade and loyalty rates, while staying below competitors, so the business can flourish.

02

An automated hire system

One system now runs every hire from start to finish: the booking, the hire agreement signed online, and the payment. No paperwork, and nothing living in Chris's head.

03

Payments that run themselves

The first two weeks are paid up front, then weekly payments are taken automatically until the hire ends. One-off charges are a click away. No more chasing invoices.

04

Every machine tracked

Every machine has its own QR code and is scanned out and back in. Chris can see which machines are available, and exactly which address every machine is at. Care cards on each machine let customers off-hire with a single scan.

05

Connected from first call to final thank you

From the moment someone gets in touch to the end of the hire, everything is linked: booking confirmations, service reminders, a thank you, a review and referral request, and each customer added to a marketing pipeline.

06

Trainable at the click of a button

Step-by-step guides for phone and laptop, written procedures and ready-made customer messages, so anyone on his team can run a hire, and Chris can focus on buying machines and marketing.

The outcome

Where they are now

  • Every hire runs through one automated system, from first call to thank you
  • Prices that reflect his value, and still beat competitors
  • Every machine tracked by number and address
  • Payments collected automatically, every week
  • A team that can be trained to run a hire in minutes
  • Chris's time going into growing the fleet and marketing
